Fragrant, hardy perennial - Nepeta faassenii 'Walker's Low'
Nepeta faassenii 'Walker's Low', also known as catmint, is a robust, easy-care perennial that provides long-lasting color in the garden from May to September with its lavender-blue flower spikes and silvery-green, aromatic foliage. It attracts bees and butterflies, making it a valuable plant for natural gardens.
The name "catnip" comes from the plant's attractive effect on cats, who love the scent of the essential oils it contains, especially nepetalactone. This natural aroma encourages playful behavior in many cats, while the plant itself is completely non-toxic.
Nepeta 'Walker's Low' is hardy and thrives best in full sun in well-drained, rather dry soil. It is ideal for flower beds, rock gardens or as a ground cover. Pruning after the first flowering promotes a second flowering in late summer and ensures a dense, compact growth habit.
