Particularly notable about this cactus is its unusual tendency to branch early and profusely, giving it a particularly attractive shape. The plant has an upright, columnar growth habit and is known for its long, silvery white hairs on the areoles, which give the plant an almost frosty appearance. The limbs are covered with strong, yellowish to gray spines which, together with the hairs, create a unique appearance.
