Fragrant, hardy flowering shrub - Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote'
Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote', also known as true lavender, is a beautiful, richly flowering plant that enriches the garden with its intense fragrance and bright purple flowers. It is in full bloom from July to August and attracts numerous bees and butterflies, making it a valuable choice for semi-natural gardens. Its compact, bushy growth is ideal for beds, rock gardens, borders or as a fragrant ground cover.
This lavender is hardy and prefers full sun locations with well-drained, rather dry soil. To promote healthy growth and lush flowering, pruning in September is recommended to remove faded shoots. Another light pruning at the end of February helps to rejuvenate the plant and prepare it for the new season. Sharp secateurs should always be used to ensure clean cuts.
