The nasturtium owes its name to its flower shape, which is reminiscent of the hoods of monks. It bears an abundance of large yellow to orange-red flowers from May until the first frosts in the fall. The leaves, in the middle of which water droplets collect like precious pearls, are also extremely decorative. Both the flowers and the leaves can be eaten. Nasturtium also contains a lot of vitamin C, can inhibit the multiplication of bacteria, viruses and fungi and promote blood circulation.
Bee food
Annual
Location: Sunny to partial shade
Growth height: up to 100 cm
USE
All parts of the nasturtium plant are edible! The leaves, flowers and even the seed capsules provide a culinary experience. Young leaves season salads, cream cheese or quark with their mustard-like, spicy aroma and belong on every hearty sandwich. The juicy flowers of the nasturtium with their rather mild aroma make an edible decoration. Soak the unripe, still green seed capsules in vinegar and salt and after a few days the tasty, delicate capers can be enjoyed.
CARE
A semi-shady to sunny spot in the garden, on the patio or balcony is ideal for the nasturtium to grow evenly. A planting distance of 30 x 30 cm and regular watering should be observed. If the water supply is too low, the lower leaves of the nasturtium will turn yellow. Seed-resistant variety.
