Grapefruit mint has only a moderate to low menthol content. But its leaves and young shoots exude a fresh, fruity and sour aroma. They are reminiscent of freshly squeezed grapefruit or sliced grapefruit. It is an enrichment in the diverse range of mints. Especially in summer, it is ideal for refreshing drinks - with or without alcohol. It grows relatively compactly and does not form excessive runners.
Hardy
Location: Sunny to partial shade
Growing height: 40-60 cm
USE
The fresh, young leaves are used as dessert mint, especially for fruit salads and compotes. They are also well suited as decorative elements for lemonades and long drinks. Grapefruit mint also goes well with Asian fish dishes and dark meat, where the lemony-fruity aroma unfolds. Do not cook with the leaves, but place them on the hot dish afterwards. Otherwise they will lose their aroma.
CARE
Grapefruit mint is hardy and sprouts relatively late from the ground (not until May). Grapefruit mint grows to a height of approx. 50 cm and forms a lilac-colored spike flower from July. As it is not vigorous, grapefruit mint does not require a rhizome barrier. Seed-resistant variety.
