Compact, hardy steppe sage - Salvia nemorosa 'Ostfriesland'
Salvia nemorosa 'Ostfriesland', also known as ornamental sage or steppe sage, is a robust, hardy perennial that provides a bright splash of color in the garden with its intense purple-blue flower spikes from May to June. Its compact, bushy growth makes it an ideal plant for borders, natural gardens or rock gardens. It also attracts numerous bees and butterflies, making it a valuable addition to any natural garden.
Salvia 'Ostfriesland' is hardy and thrives best in full sun on well-drained, rather dry soil. The plant is extremely easy to care for - pruning at the end of February promotes dense growth and lush flowering. A light pruning after the first flowering can also stimulate a second flowering in late summer.
