Pleiospilos nelii - Living Stone - Living Granite
A master of camouflage and deception.
In the stone and scree deserts of south-west Africa, these little plants imitate their surroundings: the stones. Thus, they are so well hidden that they are not found by animals that want their most precious thing: the water stored in the fleshy leaves. So they are hard to find.
Only once a year whole fields of Pleiospilos bloom, all at the same time, and form a fascinating sea of flowers.
