Stetsonia coryne, also known as the sewing needle cactus, is an impressive, columnar cactus that owes its name to its long, needle-shaped spines. The Native Americans are known to have used the spines of the stetsonia for sewing. This cactus has a robust, upright growth habit with clearly pronounced ribs that are interspersed with the characteristic, strong spines. The spines, which appear in very dark shades, give the plant a striking, defensive appearance.
Stetsonia coryne is relatively easy to care for and is ideal as an ornamental plant for sunny locations.
