Mandarins have been cultivated in China for several thousand years, with the first definite mention dating back to the 12th century BC. In 1805, Sir Abraham Hume from Canton/China brought the first mandarins to England ('Canton oranges'). One of these two varieties later developed into the 'Mediterranean mandarin'. The mandarin mint is a mint variety that smells of mandarin peel. It has a fresh, sweet-tart fragrance.
